Middleton or Mainistir na Corann (Monastery at the Weir) was established in 1180 and is situated midway between Cork City and Youghal Town. While the property had been used for a variety of purposes, the site was eventually purchased by James Murphy who distilled the first spirit in 1825. Distilling continued in the original buildings for one hundred fifty years and in 1975, a new distillery was commissioned.

Named after Midleton's Master Distiller, "Barry Crockett Legacy" is an exceptional, limited edition spirit composed of several pot still whiskies which have been distilled and matured over the past twenty two years. Most of the whiskey was aged in high quality first fill bourbon barrels, but one pot still distillate has spent over eighteen years maturing in unseasoned American oak barrels. The resulting spirit, bottled without the use of chill-filtering, offers a complex nose of barley, pear, citrus fruit, floral honey and fresh herbs, supported by rich notes of creamy vanilla and toasted oak. The elegant, medium-bodied palate opens with notes of mandarin orange, lime zest, honey and apricot, which merge with pear, cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg and spice on the long finish.
