Chilean winemaker Don Melchor de Concha y Toro was terrified that strangers would get their dirty mits on some of the most treasured wines in his cellar. So he spread the rumour that the devil lived there – Casillero del Diablo (Cellar of the Devil!) Mind you, if the devil did live there he’d be waving his pitchfork around in joy – these wines never fail to over deliver for the money. No surprise then that they were voted The World’s #1 Most Admired Wine Brand for three years running in 2011, 2012 and 2013 by Drinks Magazine International. They dropped to #2 in 2014 – but still, pretty impressive right?
