This vintage of Pinot, grown at the bottom of the North Island, is a sassy spicy little number. It bursts forth cinnamon, clove and tree-bark aromas accompanied by ripe cranberry and red-currant fruit along with a whiff of violets. It’s medium weighted, lacing crunchy fruit with the sinewy savory tannins typical to Martinborough. A little oak bitterness creeps in on the finish but overall, the fruit wins out.
