Domaine Schieferkopf Gewurztraminer is a wine of expressive complexity produced by Michel Chapoutier who is a huge fan of Alsace wines for their minerality and the specific character of their grape varieties and terroirs. Michel and a four of his wine loving friends bought this domaine and purchased the Schieferkopf vineyards in January 2009 with the goal of producing premium single vineyard wines from the great grapes of Alsace. This Gewurztraminer comes from hand-picked grapes grown on tertiary marl soils, fermented with indigenous yeasts, and left for 10 months in stainless steel tanks. It has an exotic bouquet of flowers, candied lemon, passion fruit, and ginger. It is lush on the palate with ripe yet well-chiselled tropical fruit marked by touches of lemon zest. This wine has great intensity and long lasting, inticing flavors. Enjoy with foie gras or chicken accompanied with cream sauce and mushrooms.
