With the first Montes Alpha wine released in 1988, Montes became one of the first premium wineries in Chile. Their premise, a clear belief that Chile had an untapped potential as a producer of quality wines, made them a benchmark for other wineries to follow. Its original four partners’ total involvement and the continuous help of the angels that decorate their labels were crucial to their success.
Montes is Chile’s fifth most important winery, where Aurelio Montes continues leading the winemaking area with the same passion as the first day. Hard work and total focus on quality have made Montes one of Chile’s most successful and respected quality-driven wineries as they continue pioneering and breaking new ground in wine.
A ripe and brooding Syrah shows a good depth of blackberries, ripe dark cherries and violets, a refined, spicy edge, and a savoury, balsamic character. Concentrated and rich, but still well-drinkable. The full-bodied palate is saturated with dusty tannins that seamlessly knit the palate, rendering a broad but cohesive mouth feel. Lots of hedonistic pleasures here, but not over the top. JS 97pts
