Founded in 1823, Fukano Distillery is located in Hitoyoshi City, of the Kumamoto Prefecture of Japan on the island of Kyushu. Shigeruriku Fukano is the fifth generation of his family to run the distillery where they make their unique whisky using a combination of malted and un-malted rice, distilled in pot stills.
Their 10 year release is my favorite bottling from Fukano thus far, a vatting of whiskies aged in a variety of casks including wine, sherry, and neutral oak. Rich and chewy, with dominant notes of toasted coconut and dried tropical fruits.
